Rob Akey, artist from Whitefish, Montana, grew up in the Montana mountains and on the Montana prairies. He spent youthful summers working steel gangs, trail crews and harvesting wheat, and has hiked most of Glacier National Park. As a result, he’s discovered the subjects he chooses to paint have stories that need to be told; stories he tells through his painting.
Rob Akey’s paintings are highly representational, yet emotional. He blends undertones with his subject matter to convey his joy in Montana’s wildlife, mountains, and the warmth of her farms and prairies. Rob paints his native Montana to elevate and preserve her magnificence.
His work is displayed in galleries throughout Montana, and appears in private, public, and corporate collections throughout the United States. Rob paints full-time from his studio in Whitefish, Montana; is a member of the Montana Painter's Alliance; and participates regularly in invitational, juried and plein air painting events throughout the country.
